Enjoy our 12 page booklet "Celebrating 175 Years of Railways across Cheshire" ....
In 2015 Cheshire celebrated two key rail anniversaries:
To celebrate these 175th anniversaries interested local residents and organisations came together and arranged various events including a procession which made its way up City Road from the station, to Grosvenor Park before arriving at St. John’s Church for a short service to commemorate the 175 years of rail transport to and from Chester and to give thanks for the railway and the people who worked on it and those still work in the industry.
Chester History and Heritage in St Michaels Church, Bridge Street also had exhibitions celebrating the railways including ‘All Aboard!’, ‘Homeward Bound’, ‘This Train Don’t Stop Here Anymore’ and ‘A Strangers Guide’. History and Heritage also showed the classic film The Ghost Train.
Chester Station hosted a 175 Years celebration day on Wednesday 23 September exactly 175 years after the Chester to Birkenhead line was opened. There were stalls and a history walk from the station during the day.
And as a further commemoration ... postcards, coasters and a commemorative booklet were produced – supplies still available – email railofficer@midcheshirerail.org.uk
