A MUSIC TRAIN FROM ALTRINCHAM… ON THURSDAY 12 JUNE!
For those of you who like a Music Train to Chester… our next date is … THURSDAY 12 JUNE… FIRST TIME THIS YEAR FROM ALTRINCHAM TO ALEXANDER’S IN CHESTER
The journey starts in Altrincham – leaving at 18.36. Join at any station along the line.
We arrive in Chester for taxis to Alexander’s at 19.37 and then head home on the 22:53.
On the train will be PASTRY SHOES – with sweet and compelling female vocals and harmonies, a guitarist who skilfully creates the sounds of a full band, and the smooth, melodic tones of the tenor sax. They will soothe you with easy-listening, familiar jazz and swing numbers – or have you singing to popular hits from the 1950s to the present day. At Alexander’s it’s music by Louis Noble’s SO WHAT NOW JAZZ. They play cool jazz for everyone – and Latin and blues – with a whole lot of swing.

AND FOUR WEEKS LATER – ON THE EVENING OF WEDNESDAY 30 JULY – from Chester to the Golden Pheasant at Plumley
We have a second chance to hear THE LYNCHPINS, who are back for 2025 after a successful Music Train debut last year.
They are a wonderful four-piece band playing and singing Irish jigs, reels and ballads performing on a huge variety of instruments. Their music appeals to everyone who enjoys the fun of traditional dance music and well-known popular songs.

IT’S A KNUTSFORD FESTIVAL SPECIAL MUSIC TRAIN ON THE EVENING OF WEDNESDAY 4 JUNE
The journey starts in Chester – leaving at 18.56. We make our way to the ANGEL INN on King Street in Knutsford. Join at any station along the line. Train times are the same as 14 May above. Arrive in KNUTSFORD for the Angel on King Street at 19.41 and then head home on the 21:53. The full timetable is below for easy reference
THE EPICURES are a fresh musical duo – Jim and Brian – who will entertain us on the fiddle and guitar. They are well known for playing a fusion of popular jazz, swing and folk numbers. Once we leave the Music Train at Knutsford there is a short walk of ten minutes – to the Angel where they set up and play for us.
This Music Train is part of the Knutsford Music Festival – see their website at www.discoverknutsford.com/events The Festival is back for its sixth year from Thursday 5 June to Sunday 8 June. Bringing a variety of events to Knutsford across four days, the festival features folk nights curated in partnership with BBC Radio’s Mark Radcliffe. There is a free outdoor session on the Moor on Saturday afternoon featuring live music, workshops, delicious food and drink from local traders, and entertainment for all age groups.

And the second part of the double bill is… DAVE VAUGHAN. Dave cut his teeth at Northwich Folk Club and has a well-earned reputation as a powerful and committed unaccompanied singer with a huge repertoire of songs that span the folk tradition.
THE FIRST MUSIC TRAIN OF 2025 – Wednesday 23 April
Chester to The Golden Pheasant at Plumley
(Leaves Chester at 18:56; return train arrives back in Chester at 22:38)
Exciting news for 2025 – we have a FULL programme of monthly Music Trains this year, with the first one on Wednesday 23 April with Full House and friends running through to October.
Full House will be entertaining you on the train and in the pub ‘singing songs and playing tunes, ancient and modern, from the Cheshire plains and beyond’ – a mixture of traditional, contemporary and self-written material on guitar, violin, flute and octave mandola.
Debbie and Chris Lee – Debbie has a fine voice and a winning way with a song, be it a traditional folk song, a contemporary song or a pop classic. Accompanied by the dexterous guitar-playing of husband Chris, it’s a winning combination!
‘Captain’ Andy Hignett – busker, singer-songwriter, teacher, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist – Andy is a familiar face to those who walk the streets of Chester and his distinctive and memorable music is always able to put a smile on their faces!
They are promoting Chester Folk Festival (www.chesterfolk.org.uk), to be held at Kelsall from Friday 24 May to Monday 27 May.
