“Try to imagine it as an adventure, all sorts of things might happen.”
This Easter, audiences are invited to climb aboard a heart-warming theatrical journey as The Railway Children arrives at the Altrincham Garrick Playhouse.
Running from Wednesday to Sunday from the 8th to 18th April this beloved family classic promises laughter, adventure, and a touching reminder of the power of hope and imagination.
A Classic Story Reimagined for the Stage
Based on the treasured novel by E. Nesbit and adapted by Mike Kenny, this production is directed by Jonathan Barker.
When their father suddenly disappears under mysterious circumstances, siblings Bobbie, Peter, and Phyllis are forced to leave their comfortable London life behind. Relocating with their mother to a modest cottage in rural Yorkshire, the children soon discover a world filled with new friendships, unexpected adventures, and the magic of the railway.
From daring rescues to heartfelt discoveries, their journey is one of resilience, courage, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
Mike Kenny’s celebrated adaptation of The Railway Children first captivated audiences at the National Railway Museum in 2008, before gaining national acclaim with a major staging at Waterloo Station in 2010.
Now, this much-loved version arrives in Altrincham, bringing its rich storytelling and theatrical magic to a new generation.
Perfect for the Whole Family
Capturing both the angsts and exhilarations of childhood, this production offers a nostalgic and uplifting story, memorable characters, and a celebration of imagination, love, and resilience. Whether discovering the story for the first time or revisiting a childhood favourite, The Railway Children is a heart-warming treat for audiences of all ages.
