Friends of Altrincham Interchange have worked with Navigation Road Primary School to transform a poster made by the school children into a new art panel for the Metro platform at Navigation Road. On October the 15th two of the school pupils Ava and Freddie visited the station with their teachers to view the panel and point out the pictures they had worked on.
They were also joined by volunteers from Friends of Altrincham Interchange, Dominic Place and Alison Dale of Transport for Greater Manchester, Community Rail Officer Sarah Muir and Cllr Micheal Welton who made a speech and cut the red ribbon.
Just a short hop down the line at Altrincham Interchange another new art panel has also been installed between the Metro platform and bus station concourse. This panel features artwork created by young people from 1st Altrincham Scouts and Explorers and depicts places to visit along the Mid Cheshire Line including scenic views of Delamere forest and Stockport’s famous viaduct.
Friends of Altrincham Interchange volunteer Bev Robinson came up with the idea for both art panels and reached out to the school and scouts’ group to get involved. This project is another great example of station volunteers involving the local community at our train stations.
Well done to all involved in this project and particularly Transport for Greater Manchester for funding and installing the panels. We hope the young people’s artwork will be enjoyed by visitors to these stations for many years to come.
