These hour long guided walks in the area around Northwich station will be led by local railway historian Trevor Booth. The railway arrived in Northwich in 1863, connecting the town with the rest of Britain’s ever expanding railway network, and helped to change the face of the town for ever. On these tours Trevor will show you where the original station was, talk about how passengers, goods, and coal were dealt with and you’ll hear the story of the very busy locomotive shed (and problems with its water supply!).
You will also hear about the construction of the branch lines to serve the salt industry which indirectly lead to Britain’s fi rst fatal collision between a train and a motor car!
Thursday 27th of August at 6.30 pm or Saturday 5th of October at 2.30pm meet in the car park outside the Northwich station ticket office CW9 5LY
