Mid Cheshire Line Music Trains

Following a successful Music Trains season last year, we are busy getting things in place for the coming year. And it’s going to be a different year in 2026, not least because as many of you will know that Michael Ross the Music Trains Organiser has, after almost 20 years, decided to step down from organising and running these hugely successful events. A massive ‘thank you’ to Michael for this dedication over the years making the Music Trains such a roaring success on the MID CHESHIRE LINE.

This means that other people with new ideas will take the franchise forward. We are not appointing a lead organiser, we are taking a more collaborative approach with a group of 7 people who are in-volved in mapping the course of the Music Trains from now. Each have differing skills, strengths and abilities to make this a success. Along with your feedback – which is always welcomed – we can build on the successes and experiences to date and take the Music Trains into the future. As such, we are busy working together to organise the venues and bands to keep the Music Trains up and running!

So, dates are sorted. Venues are primed and we are in the process of getting the music in place, then we are set to go! We you just wanted to give you the ‘heads up’ so you can get the dates in your diary for the Music Trains you want to join.

We have listened to YOUR feedback of previous Music Train experiences and have now….

  • Avoided relying on the last train of the day to take you home – just in case!
  • Minimised the distance from the railway station to the venue
  • Tied something different – so we have a new venue, a new time of day and we are currently chatting with some different musicians to entertain you

And of course, continuing to work with the excellent bands who have entertained you on the train over the years.

So, pop the dates in your diary and watch this space for the bands and timings of each event. You can then decide when you would like to join us for the 2026 Music Trains along the Mid Cheshire Line!

A few things to remember…….

  • There is no charge at all to take part in a Music Train event
  • If you would like to come along, just drop us an email to musictrains@midcheshirerail.org.uk so we can
    get an idea of numbers
  • Then buy a return train ticket in the usual way
  • There’s a cash collection on the way back for the band – put in whatever you want
  • Good food and drink is available at all the pubs
  • Catch the Music Train from any station at all along the line
  • Look out for the signs on the windows for the music carriage … or just follow the sound!
  • If you can’t join the Music Train, come straight to the pub and enjoy the entertainment there.

Fancy an Outing for Your Group?

As well as organising the open Music Trains, we can arrange a bespoke Music Trains for groups of 30 or more people on weekdays, either daytime or evening, It’s good value for money – all people need to do is

  • Purchase their return train ticket
  • Buy whatever food and drink they would like
  • Contribute to the cash collection for the musicians

All the organisation of the event including bands and venues is free of charge – thanks to the Community Rail
Partnership!

So, if you are a member of a group and you would like to share this entertainment experience with your fellow members, we are more than happy to help! .

Why Do We Do This?

Music Trains are arranged by volunteers on behalf of the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership to promote
the Mid Cheshire Line. We want people to use the line, enjoy the experience and come back again –
that’s our sole purpose. The train line is for everyone to use, and we actively encourage this. So, we run the
Music Trains, we produce booklets of circular walks from every station along the line and advertise many
events and activities that take place during the year, and you can take the train to get there.

Changes Might Happen

It is always possible that train times might change and a small possibility that a Music Train might have to be cancelled at short notice.  In that case we will email everyone on the mailing list to let people know  – and pop a note on the Community Rail Partnership website and station noticeboards, as well as on our social media accounts @MidCheshire CRP.

So, just keep an eye out in case there are any changes to the planned events
