The Dave Roberts Quartet pay homage to jazz legends at Alexander’s Café Bar in Chester every month. On 1 June a Mid Cheshire Music Train will take you to hear them – with music on the train to Chester, taxis arranged to and from Alexander’s, ‘sausage and mash’ as you listen and more music on the train on the way back.
The Dave Roberts Quartet is a mainstream/modern jazz ensemble with a huge repertoire of jazz standards. The emphasis is on accessible, swinging jazz; the songs are a mix of swing, latin, blues and funk. Each evening features songs associated with a famous musician or by a well-known composer. Tributes so far have included Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Jerome Kern.
Geoff Higginbottom and Rob Carroll will play on the train. They play 6 & 12 string guitars and bodhran as well as singing both traditional and contemporary songs. Geoff’s powerful voice is ideal for the chorus songs he loves and his act is spiced with a delightful sense of humour.
How it works – book the package – and a train ticket
The Music Train is arranged by the Mid-Cheshire Community Rail Partnership with Alexander’s Café Bar. You will need a ticket (£9.45 + 55p booking fee) for the package from Alexander’s, bought through their website, as well as your ticket for the train journey, bought in the usual way from a ticket office or the conductor on the train. On the way to Chester the music on the train starts at Knutsford, on the way back it continues to Altrincham.
Alexanders website is at www.alexanderslive.com . Look for the Music Train in their June music listings and book the package online.
