MID CHESHIRE LINE FESTIVAL

31st May 2009

Get to know your local railway; take a ride on the Mid Cheshire Line for a family day of fun and enjoy the beautiful rural views from the train. The Mid Cheshire Line Festival celebrates the UK's Community Rail Month with live bands and musicians on the 11.08 and 13.08 departures from Chester to Plumley and the 11.47 and 13.47 departures from Altrincham to Delamere.

Music ranging from folk, jazz, blues and traditional will continue until late afternoon at the Golden Pheasant Inn at Plumley and at Delamere Forest's Visitor Centre, where there will also be face painting for the kids - and then more music on the trains back to Chester and Altrincham.

There is no specific Festival ticket. All you need to do is buy a train ticket at the normal price from a staffed station in advance or from the conductor on the train on the day. Northern Rail's Duo ticket allows two adults to travel together for 75% of the normal cost of two adult return tickets. Lunch and refreshments will be available at The Golden Pheasant and Delamere Forest.

Music Programme

On the train from Chester to Plumley (and back) and at the Golden Pheasant

11:08 from Chester:
Up and coming, young saxophone quartet Saxafaction play a mix of popular classical music, classic pop music and film themes

13:08 from Chester:
Halfe Pannikin
play mainly British traditional tunes and songs but also a few from western Europe, particularly Sweden. They play a mix of melodeons, guitar, cuatro, whistles and recorders, flute, mandolin, bodhran, fiddle and octave fiddle and arrange many tunes to suit their combination of instruments to give many well-known tunes an original twist!

On the train from Altrincham to Delamere (and back) and at the Forest's Visitor Centre

11:47 from Altrincham:
Dr Butler's Hatstand Medicine Band present to you their good time rags and reels, show stoppers and sight stealers, music for foot stomping and toe tickling.

13:47 from Altrincham:
If you like toe-tapping honky-tonk music and country swing, The Cowboy Outfit is the band for you. A Hank Williams inspired band with Cajun influences.

At Delamere Forest Visitor Centre

Full House performs a mixture of traditional, contemporary and self written material on a range of instruments including melodeon, mandolin, mandola and whistles as well as the fiddle, flute and guitar.

Nelson Peach performs material which is predominantly British traditional, (but with some possibly surprising exceptions) Their musical style has been described as ‘rustic'; They also perform some traditional American material as an excuse for using the banjo.
