Creatures and Critters

Anderton Boat Lift
20th August 2015

Creatures and Critters – 14.00hrs

Come along and enjoy our Family Holiday Activities where history comes alive.

The Anderton Boat Lift was built by Edwin Clark in 1875 to lift cargo boats the 50 feet from the River Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal.

No description can adequately convey the sheer scale of this engineering feat. The lift worked until 1983 when serious deterioration of the structure was discovered. Some £7m was raised to fund the restoration, which was completed in 2002.

From April to October you can enjoy boat trips through the lift and along the River Weaver Navigation and afterwards marvel at the interactive displays, educational facilities and visit the gift shop and coffee shop.

Located in Northwich, the Anderton Boat Lift is in the heart of Cheshire and is one of the marvels of our canals.
