The Cheshire Salt Industry Today

Lion Salt Works
6th December 2016 - 31st March 2017

Pan House 3

In the 19th and early 20th centuries the open pan salt industry caused localised land subsidence and severe air pollution.

The Cheshire salt industry today uses ‘controlled solution mining’, a method of salt extraction that does not cause land subsidence, and ‘vacuum evaporation’, an energy-efficient process for manufacturing salt that complies with environmental standards and consistently meets product quality standards.

Come along and learn about the Chehsire Salt Industry today.
