Salt Sunday

Lion Salt Works
7th May 2017

In the Café, Thompson Suite & grounds

1.30pm to 4.00pm

Communities and industries have flourished from the salt reserves beneath our feet.

Each year, Salt Sunday explores and celebrates this heritage with a family-friendly mix of interactive art, music and science.

During the afternoon visitors can enjoy:

·         A community drama event with Mr and Mrs Theatre Company The Mr and Mrs performance starts at 2pm and no booking is required.

·         Messy science - take part in ingenious experiments, including blowing giant bubbles

·         Marvel as ‘wild brine’ is transformed into salt crystals over a boiling open-pan thanks to Lion Salt Work Trustees

·         A programme of interesting 15-minute ‘taster talks’ by salt-related guests from INEOS, the Industrial Christian Fellowship and Sci-Tech Daresbury

·         Enjoy pausing for thought during contemporary worship with the Bishop of Birkenhead, the Rt Rev Keith Sinclair at 3:30pm outside in the sunshine

·         Enjoy live folk songs with John and Ailsa including the traditional “blessing of the brine” plus live music team from HBC Chester

·         Enjoy stalls, taster talks and exhibitions from 1:30pm

·         Join a guided tour of the Salt Works after the worship time (admission charges apply for entry but not for the tour)
