Exhibition: Life below Stairs

Weaver Hall Museum
22nd June 2013 - 8th September 2013

Exhibition : Life below Stairs

A century ago, around 1.5million people were employed in domestic service. It was by no means an easy job option. Although servants might have the basic security of food, accommodation and wages, it often meant working long and variable hours undertaking physically demanding duties.

This exhibition will explore the working lives of domestic servants in Cheshire homes looking at their roles and duties, their limited leisure time and their eventual decline. It will feature objects from the collections of Cheshire West Museums and country houses across Cheshire.

Entrance to the exhibition is free.

There is a small charge when visiting the other galleries at the Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse.
