Known locally as "the ship of the Fens", because of its prominent shape that towers above the surrounding flat and watery landscape, Ely Cathedral was started in 1083. In 1322 the Norman Tower collapsed, and was replaced with an octagonal lantern. The cathedral substituted for Westminster Abbey in the film “The King's Speech”.

You can also visit Oliver Cromwell’s house, were he lived for 10 years.
