The Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership was founded in 2003 to promote increased usage of the Mid Cheshire Railway Line and to develop and improve facilities along the route. The Partnership has aims to engage communities in railway and station development projects to instil a sense of community 'ownership' of its station and to help foster perceptions of railway stations and the Line as 'local community assets'. The Partnership has won several national and regional awards and distinctions for excellence and innovation in community station development projects.
Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership welcomes approaches from commercial and non commercial organisations to join the partnership.
The Partnership is managed under a constitution that includes the following aims:
- To promote and develop the rail network in Cheshire for the benefit of local residents, businesses and visitors through a partnership approach, along the Chester – Northwich – Knutsford – Altrincham – Stockport – Manchester line.
- To work with a range of partners for specific improvements at stations and to local train services
- To encourage regeneration, sustainable development and social inclusion along the corridor served by the railway.
- To work with existing organisations to promote and support local and regional tourism initiatives.
- To promote integrated transport links to the railway, including bus, taxi, cycling and walking; to encourage good links to the national rail network at Chester, Stockport and Manchester.
- To promote active community participation at stations.
- To work with a wide range of local partners to ensure that the railway plays a full part in the social, economic and environmental regeneration of the area.
