CHESTER RAILWAY STATION
31st October 2008
Chester Railway Station’s latest development has been officially opened following a £1.76m investment in the modernisation of the concourse.
Two ticket machines allow passengers to buy tickets and collect pre-booked tickets without needing to queue at the ticket office.
There is also a new ticket office and travel centre.
The modernised concourse includes a Costa coffee shop, a coffee bar and two shops. Information displays have been modernised throughout the station. There are now stands for 70 cycles, with more to follow.
Completion of the concourse work follows the improvement to the Station Square completed last year.
The Gateway project continues and is working on plans for improvements to the overbridge and island platforms to be carried out during 2009/10.
The station is managed by Arriva Trains Wales who led the concourse improvements. Other partners are Cheshire County Council, Chester City Council, Network Rail, North West Development Agency, Merseyrail, Merseytravel and Virgin Trains. The projects have been funded by the partners plus English Heritage and the Lottery Heritage Fund.
